Dark - beyond traditional enterprise themes

Table of Contents

Introduction

Dark themes are gaining immense popularity these days. This preference for Dark Theme among coders and designers is evident, as major coding text editors like Atom, Sublime Text, Brackets, and Visual Studio Code all feature dark themes.

While there are articles written about dark mode that indicate statistics like 70% of developers opt for Dark Theme IDEs (an example from medium and a few from reddit), we at Harness found that the highest rated customer request has been Dark Theme. We don't have precise scientific studies backing up the benefits anecdotally touted about Dark Theme, but we do see it as a great feature to enable our users their individual preferences.

Understanding Why Dark Theme is so Popular

  • Dark theme helps developer C 😁
  • Light themes attracts more bugs 🙃
  • Squint-free late nights
  • Keeps the battery from throwing in the towel
  • Makes the screens as cool as you
  • Less chance of your eyes feeling like they have been sunburnt

Does Dark theme matter at Harness??

Most definitely! Listening to our customers and going above and beyond, Harness is focused on providing users with theming options to provide an even more immersive experience.

Developers can use dark themes, which is reminiscent of their IDEs, while DevOps and FinOps can use light themes if they so wish. Users with visual impairment (e.g. colorblindness) will also be able to benefit from our accessibility theming options.

To add the cherry on top: not only will colors change dynamically based on themes, the size, shape, and overall stylistic rendering of our visual components will change accordingly to redefine theming for our enterprise users across our various products.

Stay Tuned

The popularity of dark themes can be attributed to their benefits for eye comfort, battery efficiency, aesthetic appeal, and suitability for different lighting conditions. These advantages make dark themes a preferred choice for many users across various software applications and platforms and Harness is already working on this.
